Pirates prospect interview: Tyler Gaffney

Outfielder Tyler Gaffney signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in July, deciding to pass up his senior seasons at Stanford where he was a football and baseball standout. As a leadoff hitter for the Short Season-A State College Spikes, Gaffney batted .297 before he was shutdown with a shoulder injury. PiratesDugout.com's George Von Benko caught up with Gaffney recently.

Postgame Interview: Tyler Gaffney

Though Stanford didn’t run any Wildcat plays against Notre Dame, Tyler Gaffney still figured prominently in the Cardinal offense. The junior halfback, a member of the rotation behind Stepfan Taylor, had six carries for 30 yards and two catches for 17 yards.

Pre-Notre Dame Intervew: Tyler Gaffney

Of the three running backs that rotate behind Stepfan Taylor, Tyler Gaffney has stood
out this season as the featured player in Stanford’s version of the Wildcat formation, where he
takes a direct snap from under center. The Cardinal has had some success using the formation,
and Gaffney has gained significant chunks of yardage from it.

Stanford 65, Washington 21

Did I think No. 8 Stanford would beat No. 25 Washington on Saturday night?
Absolutely. Did I think that the Cardinal would obliterate the Huskies by 44 points, providing a
resounding answer to the questions around its strength of schedule? To be honest, not really, but
that’s exactly what Stanford did, adding even more steam to the hype machine.

The Bootleg’s Scott Cooley provides notes and quotes from the weekly media luncheon following Stanford’s eye-opening 68-24 rout of a barely "A-Wake" Forest team at Stanford Stadium Saturday night. Once again, discussion took place, or didn't take place, regarding the Cardinal's current injury communication policy. It makes for great entertainment, to be sure.

Stanford's offense rallied just in time and Alex Pracher got the save in a 8-7 win Friday, but it was WSU who rallied to take the series with a 4-2 Saturday win and a 9-3 victory Sunday after beating up Pracher late. This week, the Cardinal will square off against Hawai’i (26-23) on Tuesday, followed by the season’s penultimate conference series: at Arizona (31-17, 10-10) starting on Friday.
