Secondary Stock Watch: Five Up/Five Down

"Live by the pass, die by the pass." Those words of wisdom are generally applied to the offense but we've taken it a step further -- how well will some top teams defend the pass? This year some top teams will field a great secondary while other pass defenses will look like a work in progress.

Kirkpatrick Tabbed By Cincinnati

Dre Kirkpatrick was recruited by major football powers from coast-to-coast coming out of Gadsden City High School (AL). Teams sought the skills of the tall cornerback capable of shutting down the big receiver. He eschewed overtures from all suitors signing instead with Alabama. The Cincinnati Bengals made the shut down defender the seventeenth selection in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

This is probably not a great week to ask Alabama Coach Nick Saban about his players being in the running for individual awards, but it wouldn't come as a great surprise if Saban brought it up. The Crimson Tide coach seems to relish players in the team sport of football being recognized for their individual excellence.
