Laird Covering The Bases

ROCHESTER, NY - He attentively checks the lineup card manager Dave Miley displays in the locker room. He needs to be certain which mitt he needs tonight on the field. Some days Brandon Laird will be listed as a third baseman; other days he will be required to guard the first base line. No matter where he is situated on the field, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre slugger enjoys playing on a daily basis.

Laird Needs To Slow Things Down

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees third baseman Brandon Laird left the game early against the Rochester Red Wings Tuesday night due to a leg injury. He had hurt himself upon fielding a ground ball hit by Aaron Bates during the top of the 5th inning. After the game, he felt fine. This is good news for Yankees fans as Laird expects big results this season and a potential call up back to the majors.

Brandon Laird was coming off of an impressive 2010 campaign for the Yankees AA affiliate, Trenton Thunder, culminating in being named most valuable player of the Eastern League and put him squarely on the prospect map in the upper levels. As a marked man coming into 2011, Laird was certainly looked at as a legit candidate to make his major league debut at some point throughout the season.

Scouting Yankees Prospect #11: Brandon Laird

The Yankees drafted third baseman Brandon Laird in the 27th round of the 2007 MLB Draft out of Cypress College. He has posted some really good numbers in his first three professional seasons but was plagued by slow starts. Nearly everyone dreamed of what he could do if he got off to a hot start and he finally showed that last year, earning Double-A Eastern League MVP honors.
