A SEASON THAT STARTED WITH LOFTY EXPECTATIONS has mercifully come to an end. Saturday afternoon, on the road in Reno, the Vandals exemplified everything endured this season with in a 56-3 thrashing at the hands of the Wolf Pack. The focus now turns to recruiting to fill holes for 2012, building a line around redshirt freshman center MIKE MARBOE, and a shakeup in the coaching staff is likely.

Vandal road victory is Taylor made

MAKING THE SECOND START OF HIS CAREER AT IDAHO, redshirt sophomore quarterback TAYLOR DAVIS delivered the spark the Vandal offense needed, ending a six-game losing skid with a 32-29 win at San Jose State. After throwing for just 33 yards last week against Hawaii, Davis completed 13-of-20 attempts for 162 yards and a TD at SJSU, while senior tailback Kama Bailey erupted for 163 yards and two TDs.

UI-BGSU POST-GAME: Robinson & Walker

THURSDAY NIGHT IN THE SEASON OPENER FOR THE VANDALS, Idaho struggled defensively in the first half giving up 30 points to the visiting Falcons. The Vandal D made adjustments at the half and didn't yield a second half point to BGSU, but by then the damage was done and a stagnant Vandal offense couldn't keep pace, falling 32-15. Team Captain TRE'SHAWN ROBINSON and safety Gary Walker met the media.

The 2011 Vandal linebacking corps

DEFENSIVELY IDAHO HAS OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE ACROSS THE BOARD, but no unit returns as much senior leadership and game experience as the linebackers. In the middle is hard-hitting senior TRE'SHAWN ROBINSON, No.2 on the team with 80 tackles last year, and he is flanked on either side by Robert Siavii (No.1 with 91 tackles) and Homer Mauga (No.4 with 74 tackles) and a depth chart full of talent.

Vandals Win Opener, Down NMSU 21-6

The Vandals jumped out to an impressive 21-0 lead going into halftime at New Mexico State on Saturday, looking poised and prepared (including MAX KOMAR rolling over an Aggie defender for a TD) in the season opener for both schools. In the second half the Idaho offense stalled, but the Vandal defense forced a couple Aggie turnovers in a bend-but-don't-break approach, yielding just one touchdown.

NEVADA POST-GAME: Robb Akey

Despite Saturday's 49-14 loss to Nevada, Idaho continues to make progress. "We’re teaching them how to fight, how to win, how to compete. We’re teaching them how to do a lot of things. These players, I think, are playing hard. I do believe I saw that out there today. Hard and effective need to come together though, and we need to get effective to bounce itself in there more often."
