It's only a matter of time

For his team it was a season to remember. In some unfortunate ways it was equally memorable for himself. Current Husker commit, linebacker Chris Williams had to watch on the sidelines as his team went into the playoffs, but he knows someday soon his watching days will be done. He's just waiting for his time when he gets to Nebraska and that day becomes a reality.

Williams talks commitment

It doesn’t happen very often that the 5A defensive player of the year is a junior. It doesn’t happen a lot, actually. It did last year though. That speaks just a little to Chris Williams and his ability as a player. The other that is a little amazing is that teams were looking at him to play anywhere from safety to outside linebacker to middle linebacker. And now, he’s a Husker.

Bo Pelini knows that he needs linebackers. The Huskers have been trying all recruiting season to woo some of the best players to Lincoln, and they finally scored on one today. Chris Williams, who has offers from schools like LSU, Tennessee and Alabama, is planning on playing his college days in Lincoln

Chris Williams admits that some schools that had initially offered him aren't really showing much interest anymore. "Schools like Arizona, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State…they offered and that's about it. Besides Nebraska and Oregon, there aren't really any other coaches that I'm talking to on a regular basis...I'm just playing the field and will see where that..."

Williams talks about official visit to NU

There’s little doubt that from the beginning of the season to last night’s game, the Nebraska team needs more players, some depth, especially on the defensive side. Linebacker Chris Williams is just one of the many defensive players in this last weekend seen as someone who could definitely help.

Huskers get to host LB

Last week, Nebraska brought you an update on, arguably, the top middle linebacker on Nebraska’s board. In that update, his head coach said that he expected that this player wouldn’t be planning any visits until October and then it would just be one. With the first part of October around the corner, this coach called Big Red Report this morning to talk about a visit that is planned.

Williams might take an official

For some, the season and recruiting go hand in hand. There is enough
time to get away on the weekend for an official visit. For others,
there is a need to wait for the season to end all together before even
thinking about recruiting. For Chris Williams, it's a combination of
both. The standout linebacker has one open date and might take an
official that weekend.

Chris Williams might be the defending 5A defensive state player of the year in the Lone Star state, but that is usually the last thing on his mind. He can only think about the night last fall when things ended for Abilene High, when all their hard work culminated into a night Williams doesn’t think he will ever forget.

Plus, they won the national championship last year. It's hard to turn that down. We're definitely on the same page. They are recruiting me the hardest and I have a good relationship with coach Bradley Dale Peveto..."

"LSU is known for having great defense," Chris Williams said. "It's in the SEC and the players are really tough there. I like that they play young guys and start the best players there. It would be fun to go there and work hard and try to get on the field right away. I think I could do it." Williams hasn't been able to make any junior days and he'll likely be unable to attend any summer camps.
